Like its predecessor, this volume uses SI units exclusively in order to rationalize the units for mechanical energy and thermal energy. The depth of treatment is retained, as will be seen by the extent to which hydrodynamic lubrication theory and
boundary layer theory are dealt with in chapter 4. This exposition of the necessary boundary layer theory will greatly enhance the student's understanding of the heat transfer process, covered in chapter 5. This volume is primarily intended to cover the final two years' work of a typical CNAA Ordinary or Honours degree course in mechanical engineering. However, it will also be found useful by students in universities on second and final year courses in aeronautical engineering and civil engineering.
